Life till Debut:
Babar Azam was born in the historic Walled City of Lahore on October 15, 1994, to Mohammad Azam Siddique and a housewife, marking the start of a journey that would see him become a global cricket star. He grew up in a Punjabi Kamboh family with two younger siblings, with cricket as a significant part of his life from a young age. Inspired by his first cousins, international cricketers Kamran, Umar, and Adnan Akmal, Babar's early days were spent playing tape-ball cricket in local streets, fostering his initial passion. His father, despite running a small watch repair business, fully supported his cricketing ambitions.
Formal training began after he joined a cricket academy under the guidance of his first coach, Rana Sadiq, who helped refine his foundational skills. A notable early experience was working as a ball boy at the Gaddafi Stadium, a moment that further fueled his aspiration to play at the highest level while watching his idols up close. This dedication quickly translated into opportunities at the junior level, where he represented Pakistan in the Under-15 team in 2008. His stellar performances continued at the Under-19 World Cups in both 2010 and 2012, where he emerged as Pakistan's leading run-scorer in both editions.
These consistent and high-scoring performances in junior cricket ensured a smooth transition into the domestic circuit. He honed his skills playing for various teams, including Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited, Islamabad Leopards, and Central Punjab in the prestigious Quaid-e-Azam Trophy. His relentless hard work and significant talent were eventually rewarded with his international debut for Pakistan on May 31, 2015, in an ODI against Zimbabwe in Lahore, where he scored a fifty on his home ground, marking a spectacular beginning to his senior international career.
